Newsletter Team
Role: Newsletter Team Member (Writers/Editors/Creators)
Location: Remote
Type: Unpaid Volunteer Position
Role Description:
As a member of the Newsletter Team, you will contribute to the creation of engaging, informative, and inspiring content for the Hot Mess Express community. This may involve writing articles, editing submissions, designing layouts, or brainstorming new ideas to keep our supporters up to date on all things HME.
Responsibilities:

Research and write content related to HME programs, affiliates, and community impact.

Edit and proofread articles and submissions from contributors.

Collaborate with the team to create a consistent layout, tone, and design for each newsletter.

Work with other departments (e.g., Social Media, Affiliate Support) to ensure accurate and timely information.
Qualifications:

Strong written communication and editing skills.

Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a consistent content calendar.

Attention to detail and a creative approach to storytelling.

Familiarity with basic design and layout tools (e.g., Canva, InDesign) is a plus.
Digital Operations Team
Role: Digital Operations Support
Location: Remote
Type: Unpaid Volunteer Position
Role Description:
As Digital Operations Support, you will help maintain and improve the Hot Mess Express website, assist with app management (e.g., Knack), and ensure our digital tools are user-friendly and up to date. Your role will be vital in creating a smooth online experience for both affiliates and supporters.
Responsibilities:

Update and maintain website content, layout, and navigation.

Troubleshoot basic technical issues and coordinate with developers as needed.

Assist with managing HME’s app (e.g., Knack) to streamline affiliate processes.

Identify opportunities for digital enhancements and process improvements.
Qualifications:

Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace).

Basic understanding of web design best practices and user experience.

Ability to learn and adapt to new digital tools and platforms.

Finance Support
Location: Remote
Type: Unpaid Volunteer Position
Overview:
We are looking for support across several areas of finance within Hot Mess Express. This includes helping strengthen our national financial structure, supporting affiliates with budgeting, and assisting with development efforts. Whether you have experience in one area or several, your support can help keep our organization running smoothly and growing responsibly.
Areas of Support:

Development Support: Assist with grant research, grant writing, and identifying potential funding opportunities to support national growth and infrastructure.

Affiliate Budget Support: Work directly with affiliates to help them create and maintain budgets, answer questions, and provide guidance through meetings or ongoing communication.

General Finance Support: Support day-to-day financial organization, help improve systems and processes, and assist the national team with overall financial planning and needs.

Affiliate Support Team
Role: Affiliate Support Team Member
Location: Remote
Type: Unpaid Volunteer Position
Role Description:
The Affiliate Support Team works behind the scenes to help keep HME's growing affiliate network organized, supported, and running smoothly.
This role is a great fit for someone who is organized, consistent, reliable, and doesn't mind digging into the details. The work can vary from week to week and often includes data entry, reviewing and organizing information, completing administrative tasks, identifying gaps, and helping build or improve the systems and processes our affiliates and National Team rely on.
While some tasks may be repetitive or tedious, they directly contribute to making HME stronger and more effective. Affiliate Support Team members are also encouraged to share ideas, identify opportunities for improvement, and help us think through what processes or resources may be needed as the organization continues to grow.
The Affiliate Support Team meets virtually once a week.
Responsibilities:

Complete ongoing administrative, organizational, and data-entry tasks.

Help maintain accurate affiliate information and records.

Review information and help identify missing, outdated, or inconsistent data.
-
Assist with projects that improve affiliate systems, resources, and internal processes.
-
Provide input on gaps, needs, and opportunities for improvement.

Help develop, document, and implement new processes as needed.
-
Take on a variety of projects and tasks based on current organizational needs.

Collaborate with other members of the Affiliate Support and National Teams.

Attend weekly virtual Affiliate Support Team meetings.
Qualifications:

Strong communication and organizational skills.

A collaborative and helpful attitude.

Experience in customer service, coaching, or mentorship is a plus.

Comfortable working with spreadsheets and organizing data.
Affiliate Onboarding
Affiliate onboarding falls under the Affiliate Support umbrella, and there are opportunities for experienced team members to become more involved in this area over time.
After spending time learning HME, our affiliate structure, policies, and processes, and completing the appropriate training, team members may assist with interviewing prospective affiliate leaders and supporting different parts of the onboarding process.
Much of the work behind onboarding is also systems-focused, including tracking progress, maintaining records, completing administrative tasks, and helping improve the processes and resources used to bring new affiliates into HME.
Social Media/Content Creation
Role: Social Media Coordinator
Location: Remote
Type: Unpaid Volunteer Position
Role Description:
As a Social Media Coordinator, you’ll help create engaging content to share the mission and impact of Hot Mess Express. This role involves posting updates, creating visuals, and managing interactions on our social platforms.
Responsibilities:

Create and post content on HME’s social media accounts.

Respond to comments and engage with followers.

Collaborate on campaigns to increase visibility and awareness.
Qualifications:

Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

Creative thinking and basic design skills (Canva experience is a bonus).
